Kanyakumari district is located in the southernmost tip of India and is situated in the state of Tamil Nadu. It covers an area of 1,685 square kilometers and has a population of approximately 2 million people.

The district was formed in 1956, after the reorganization of states in India. The district shares its borders with the Arabian Sea, the Indian Ocean, and the Bay of Bengal.

In this district ThiruvithamcodeArappally, also calledAmalagiriChristian church as named by the Chera King UthiyanCheralathan, was built by St. Thomas disciple of Jesus Christ, known as the Apostle of India, in 63 AD. It is believed to be the world’s oldest existing church structure, and is now declared an international St. Thomas pilgrim center. One of the world’s oldest church that still has daily prayer.

Kanyakumari district is home to the Padmanabhapuram Palace, which was the seat of the Travancore kingdom,and was ruled by various dynasties, including the Cholas, the Pandyas, and the Nayaks.

Swami Vivekananda,meditated on the rock in 1892,well known as Vivekananda Rock Memorial,is a popular tourist attraction.

The Thiruvalluvar Statue,is the tallest statue of a Tamil poet adds beauty to this district.
